Rupee up on gains in euro, local shares
MUMBAI |
MUMBAI (Reuters) – The rupee strengthened in afternoon trade on Tuesday in tandem with gains in the euro, local equities and Asian currencies.
* At 1:50 p.m., the partially convertible rupee was at 45.63/64 per dollar, stronger from Monday’s close of 45.67/68.
* The euro rose to a session high against the dollar on Tuesday, boosted by a stronger-than-expected reading of German manufacturing activity.
* The single currency was at $1.4475 from $1.4421 at the end of local forex trade on Monday, while the index of the dollar against six major currencies was 73.632 points, from 73.852 points previously.
* The local share index rose over 1 percent in choppy trade.
